New to Blu > Movies: November 30-December 6
Warner Bros uncorks The Hangover Part II on Blu-ray here a week ahead of the US and the UK.
According to one early online review, the sequel offers “excellent visuals.
“Sharpness was terrific. From start to finish, the flick presented crisp, concise images without any issues connected to softness.
“While the first movie and its sequel delivered similar visuals, the DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack of Part II was the better of the two.”
Captain America: The First Avenger blasts on to Blu-ray in 2D and 3D editions.
The former was dubbed “high-def candy … This disc sports perfect edges, wonderfully clear, powerful colours, and detail levels that truly shine”.
The same critic rated the 3D redux marginally lower but hailed it as “one of the more aggressive conversions, and has plenty for 3D fans to ooh and ahh about”.
Common to both is a “well-rounded DTS-HD MA 7.1 lossless soundtrack.
“This is a balanced but still exciting track that handles every extreme thrown its way with ease.”
Unlike the theatrical release, the Asian porn romp, Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy, isn’t being offered in 3D while among the library stock being rounded up on Blu-ray for the first time is the 25th anniversary edition of Footrot Flats.
Other back-catalogue bows include the first three Rambo adventures, Barton Fink, Casino Jack, Darkman and, in separate original and re-make editions, Cape Fear.
Going direct to disc are The Nutcracker, Peep World, Knockout and the music titles, Cream Royal Albert Hall Reunion Tour, Dream Theater: Liver at the Budokan, Pretenders: Loose in LA, Queensryche: Mindcrime at the Moore and Aphrodite Les Folies – Live in London.
