New to Blu: Movies, TV & Music > October 31-November 6
Spider-Man apparently doesn’t look quite as amazing in 3D as he does in 2D.
“Generally, Sony’s Blu-ray 3D presentation of The Amazing Spider-Man lacks invigorating 3D depth and pop …
“The good news, however, is that the action scenes yield considerably more ‘obvious’ 3D effects, as somewhat more reserved than the ‘norm’ they may be.
“The 3D effects appear more fluid and natural as Spider-Man swings from one location to the next, as he battles on the bridge, as he fights the lizard at film’s end.”
But there were no quibbles over the 2D transfer: “This Blu-ray gives a state-of-the-art presentation with a magnificent video – worthy of home theater demonstration levels.”
“The Three Stooges laughs it up on Blu-ray with an excellent 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 encode (1.85:1). The freshly-minted transfer displays terrific, well-defined lines around the hair and clothing of the cast.”
“Intruders features a 1080p transfer that’s reflective of the film’s natural slightly soft and gloomy photography.”
“There are times where the image appears to be soft for aesthetic reasons and the film makes use of a rather grim colour palette but detail is generally very strong even in the darker moments as is texture. Colours are reproduced quite naturally and black levels are deep and strong.”
“Preserving the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, Attack the Block looks and sounds mostly excellent on Blu.
“Both image (using the MPEG4-AVC encode) and soundtrack (present in DTS-HD form) are free of damage and maintained the expected clarity and crispness throughout.”
Also new is A Few Best Men while two HBO comedy series are out as box sets: Entourage – The Complete Series, Eastbound & Down: Seasons 1-2 (along with a separate release of season three), and Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The Complete Season 4.
New for music fans are The Rolling Stones: Charlie is My Darling, The Doors: Live at the Bowl ‘68 and Andrew Rieu: Home For Christmas.

I don’t think the 2D looks that great, either. Your comment about Intruders also applies to Amazing Spider-Man, which really wasn’t amazing at all. Rent, don’t buy.
