New to Blu: November 17-23 (Movies)
You’d be a potato head not to buy the Blu-ray of Toy Story 3.
US critics thought the Pixar sensation, with its eye-popping HD audio, video and extras, a marvellous Toy.
Quipped Blu-ray.com: “The only way Toy Story 3 could look any better is if you hopped in a DeLorean and picked up a copy of the film’s 25th Anniversary re-release (complete with sparkling lossless video).”
Concurred Home Theater Forum: “Once again, a Pixar film makes a gorgeous high definition debut with such astonishing detail in the animation that you honestly feel that you could touch the characters.”
Hi-Def Digest dubbed the audio and video “top-notch demo-worthy” and added: “There’s a huge helping of extras that will keep you entertained for hours.”
Toy Story 3 goes on sale Wednesday as a two-disc Blu-ray plus DVD and in a triple-pack with the first two Toy Stories.
Also new are the low-budget, direct-to-DVD thrillers, The Descent Part 2 and Autopsy, and two special edition re-issues: The Goonies: 25th Anniversary Edition and The Exorcist: The Extended Director’s Cut.
DVD Authority reckons Warner Bros has done “a fine job” with both the theatrical and extended cuts of the 40-year-old Exorcist: “They look sharp, clean and as well-defined as I’ve ever seen them.”
Extras on the previous DVD releases have been retained and a three-part documentary added.
Concluded AVForums: “The Exorcist now looks and sounds fabulous enough to make your head spin. The extras package is generous, supplying pretty much everything a fan could wish for except a crucifix and a can of green pea-soup.”
WB also is releasing Wednesday a raft of repackaged back-catalogue Blu-rays on double-bills and in multi-packs.
