New to Blu: November 9 – 15

Lording it over this week’s TV-on-Blu-ray releases is Preacher – Season One.

“Visually it has a richly vibrant comic book feel, with excellent contrast and popping colours,” AVForums said. “With strong black levels, this is a great video presentation for a great-looking show.”

Extras include deleted and extended scenes, The Unfilmable Pilot, The Stunts of Preacher and three Blu-ray exclusives: a gag reel, Chainsaw Fight Breakdown and Behind the Killing Machine: Saint of Killers.

Other notable TV-on-BD newcomers include season one of Versailles, season two of Outlander and DefianceAbsolute Duo – The Complete Series, Log Horizon: Season 2 – Part 2 (Episodes 14-25) and Blood Blockade Battlefront – Complete Series.

As for the rest of the week’s BD debuts:

Sing Street‘s 1080p transfer isn’t the sharpest on the block, but it gets the job done. Rather noisy at times and a little unkempt around the edges, definition is nevertheless fine, with more heavily constructed attire revealing satisfyingly intimate attention to detail.”

Imperium appears in an aspect ratio of approximately 2.40:1 … with a good but erratic presentation. Sharpness was the primary weak link, as some interiors seemed oddly soft. Those didn’t pop up often, though, so most of the movie showed positive delineation.”

A Perfect Day looks and sounds pretty great on Blu-ray. The picture has a naturally muted palette, with plenty of browns and grays, with skintones that tend more toward brown and nearly white in sunlight. Detail is extremely strong, and depth is decent.”

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates was shot completely on location in Hawaii using both Arri Alexa and Red Dragon digital equipment … The Blu-ray transfer provides a pleasant, detailed image, and about what one would expect from a recently released, shot-on-digital comedy.”

Also out are GoldstonePandemic, re-issues of the Star Wars trilogies and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, special editions of Blue Thunder and The Natural, and a 4K version of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
