New to Blu: October 10 – 16
Sicario: Day of the Soldado
➢ “Sicario: Day of the Soldado makes its way onto Blu-ray with a solid 2.40:1 1080p transfer. Shot digitally and finished at a 2K DI, the image offers up a well-detailed and colourful image. Like the first Sicario, the colour palette is dominated by pronounced tans, browns, and yellows with only small dips into reds and blues. As such the picture favours earth tones a bit more while blue skies enjoy some impressive pop.” — High-Def Digest.
➢ “Long distant camera pans are smooth and three dimensional in perspective with well-articulated minutia. Blacks are stable and deep with appreciable dynamic range. Contrast is emboldened and stable so that colours and whites pop while not appearing overdriven. Flesh tones are lifelike and reflective of the varying complexional types among the cast. The video had a sharp, pristine quality that looked great.” — AVS Forum.
➢ “The [4K] encode is near perfect … Facial details show definite improvement over the 1080p disc, and the blacks are just deep and inky, while showing off more shadow detail. What really stood out was the use of HDR for the main colouring. The Blu-ray looks VERY blue and gray in many spots, giving it an almost hazy look. The 4K UHD brightens that up just a bit, lessening the blue/grey tinge and instead adding more yellow and green to the image.” — AV Nirvana.
● Also new are In Darkness, Wentworth: The Complete Season 6, The Expanse: Season Two (“a satisfying level of detail”) and Sailor Moon Crystal Collection (Limited Edition).
