New to Blu: October 21 – 27
Great Scott! It’s not only Arnie’s who back — both back-to-the-future franchises blast their way back on to Blu-ray.
Terminator Genisys comes with a Dolby Atmos option and less impressive extras about the casting, locations and vfx.
The 30th anniversary edition of the Back to the Future trilogy isn’t worth upgrading to if you already have the 25th anniversary release: it has the same transfers and extras while the new extras are good but not great (the centrepiece is a 45-minute retrospective from 2009 that was compiled from inferior 480i sources).
Other blasts from the past include Jean de Florette, Vampyros Lesbos and the redundant remake of Poltergeist that’s at least “a fantastic example of digital cinema.
“The clarity and crispness allows for the finest of details to be visible at nearly every instance. Aside from a very minimal amount of soft shots, this is a reference-quality disc.”
Also new are Hot Pursuit (“looks good, though I was surprised to see several scenes that were plagued with grain“), Magic Mike XXL (“retains the picture’s highly digital look, offering a clean, crisp viewing experience”), ’71 (“looks suitably authentic and gritty“), The D Train (“this transfer is a pleasure to watch from start to finish”), Air (“agonisingly dreary but precisely so”) and Visions.
There’s also a trio of TV shows: seasons one (part two) of Outlander, two of The Blacklist (“the video quality here is just outstanding“) and three of Vikings (“while the show isn’t a popcorn action experience, it has a better sound design than you might think”).

There is a really good documentary on Netflix about Back To The Future called Back In Time, it’s more up to date 🙂
Thanks, Trevor, good to know.
