New to Blu: October 24 – 30

Two Kiwi movies — The Breaker Upperers and Hibiscus & Ruthless — head the Blu-ray slate while Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! and a re-issue of Christine are the sole 4K-UHD releases.

The Breaker Upperers includes a commentary by stars/directors Jackie Van Been and Madeleine Sami, a featurette and bloopers while Hibiscus has only bloopers.

Also new on Blu-ray are the TV series American Horror Story: Cult, Knightfall (season 1) and Versailles (S3), the back catalogue trio of Tomie UnlimitedThe Cotton Club and Revenge of the Creature, and Rock Montreal/Live Aid.

Christine is one of a slew of John Carpenter movies being re-issued on 4K-UHD internationally.

New Blu-ray editions of They Live!, The Fog and Prince of Darkness were meant to get a Halloween release but have been pushed back to March and apparently won’t be offered here on 4K-UHD.

But fans of the horror director should be happy with Christine’s 4K resurrection. likened it to a time machine: “Christine looks as pristine as it must have on the day it theatrically released, if not better.”

Echoed High-Def Digest: “The 35-year-old film enjoys a welcomed uptick in definition for a majority of the runtime while awash with an ultra-fine layer of natural grain, giving the 2160p transfer an awesome film-like quality.”

Extras on the Mamma Mia! sequel include:

  • Deleted/extended songs and scenes with commentary by director/Screenwriter Ol Parker
  • High Jinks
  • Enhanced sing-alongs
  • The Story
  • Mamma Mia! Reunited
  • Playing Donna

I got the new Mamma Mia on iTunes and I absolutely love it, in fact I think it’s better than the original movie as it’s got a better story with it being a prequel and a sequel and of course LOTS of wonderful ABBA songs. Have you guys heard ABBA may be releasing a new album in 2019? YIPPEE!!!!
