New to Blu: October 5-11

Iron Man 2 looks set to forge a reputation as one of the year’s top demo discs.

Early US reviews of the Blu-ray, which goes on sale Tuesday, will have fans stoked.

Typical of the acclaim for the HD transfer were: “A pin sharp image with excellent contrast, deep blacks and rich colours” (AV Forums); “excellent from beginning to end” (; “absolutely incredible — as far as new movies heading straight to high definition goes, this is cream of the crop stuff” (Hi-Def Digest).

Critics were also excited about the extras, with one of the toughest sites to please in this regard, Hi-Def Digest, awarding them 4/5 and praising in particular the making-of HD doco that runs for 90 minutes.

And, for a change, NZ is getting the same edition as the US, including the digital copy.

Also new this week are Doctor Who: Series 5 – Volume 4South Park – The Complete 13th Season: Uncensored, the Australian thriller, The Horseman, and the Bad Company concert, Hard Rock Live.

Heading the bargain-priced back-catalogue charge is Spartacus: 50th Anniversary Edition, followed by the re-make of Dawn of the Dead, the lesser horrors The Return and The Skeleton Key, and the thrillers The Jackal, Hard Rain and Mercury Rising.
