New to Disney+ in April

Film buffs can look forward to seeing the remastered version of The Abyss on Disney+.

It will surface in 4K from April 11, a week ahead of docuseries Titanic: The Digital Resurrection.

James Cameron’s submarine classic was first made available to transactional streaming services in December 2023 and has since been released on 4K-UHD Blu-ray, although not in this market.

Disney also has just announced a 4K upgrade of the western Tombstone in the US. It will be released on both 4K-UHD disc and streaming services like Apple TV+ in late April.

Hopefully Disney+ subscribers won’t have to wait as long as The Abyss’ window to stream this modern classic in 4K.

Most of the April premieres already have been promoted on this site, including FX’s Dying for Sex (April 4), S2 of Doctor Who (April 12) and S2 of Andor (April 23).

Also new are S2 of Vanderpump Villa (April 24) and the documentary Pets (April 11), which explores the extraordinary relationships between animals and people.

April’s also notable for being the first full month of ESPN on Disney+, the key highlights being: NBA Double Header: Milwaukee Bucks v Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors v Los Angeles Lakers (April 4), and the first rounds of the NBA Playoffs (April 20) and NHL Playoffs (April 20).
