New to Disney+ in August

Star Original series FX’s Alien: Earth (August 13) promises to be the stellar attraction on Disney+ in August but the most provocative could be the dating show for virgins, Are You My First? (August 18).
As USA Today reports, the latter concerns a group of virgins trying to find love with the help of “the genre’s mostmemorable virgin“:
Colton Underwood − who discussed the challenge of being a virgin as a professional athlete on The Bachelorette in 2018 − and Kaitlyn Bristowe are hosting Hulu’s new reality TV show Are You My First? Underwood was also the lead on The Bachelor in 2019. Bristowe starred on The Bachelorette in 2015 before going on to host the show for two seasons in 2021. The “dating experiment,” as Hulu calls the show, is bringing together “the largest, hottest group of virgins ever assembled search for intimacy, love – and maybe their first – in a tropical paradise designed just for them.”
It’s also a big month for new ‘toons, docuseries and live sport.
As well as the King of the Hill update (August 14) and Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends (August 12), there’s Marvel Animation’s globe-trotting action-adventure series Eyes of Wakanda (August 1).
It chronicles the adventures of brave Hatut Zaraze warriors throughout history who just must carry out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda.

The Star Original movie Eenie Meanie (August 22) is billed as “an irreverent high-speed thriller” from 20th Century Studios that follows a former teenage getaway driver who is dragged back into her unsavoury past when a previous employer offers her the chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend.
Written and directed by Shawn Simmons (The Continental: From the World of John Wick), it stars Ready or Not’s Samara Weaving as the titular character, Karl Glusman, Jermaine Fowler, Marshawn Lynch, Randall Park, Steve Zahn and Andy Garcia.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox (August 20) is a Star Original series inspired by Amanda Knox’s 16-year battle to clear her wrongful conviction for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Italy.
Stalking Samantha: 13 Years of Terror (August 20), is an ABC News docuseries about a stalker who abducted his 10-year obsession and chained her up in a soundproof bunker he had secretly built inside a storage unit near her Michigan home.
Victim Samantha Stites shares her story in her own words for the first time in the three-part series, which also features “chilling police interview footage, surveillance from the storage unit, and disturbing images and videos recovered from [the kidnapper’s] phone.”
Capturing Their Killer: The Girls on the High Bridge (August 13) is another ABC News docuseries, named after two young girls who were murdered while on an afternoon walk in small-town Indiana. Reads the burb:
Years after a chilling piece of evidence was discovered on one of the victims’ phones, a local man was arrested for the horrifying murders. As the case unfolded in court, claims of ritualistic elements, sealed documents, and alleged ties to dark online subcultures shocked the nation and redefined the case.
In Limitless: Live Better Now (August 15), Chris Hemsworth explores science-backed ways to improve our health and live longer, better lives.
He learns to drum for a brain-boosting, surprise stadium gig; climbs a frozen 183m wall to explore the benefits of breaking out of our comfort zones; and embraces brutal Special Forces pain training in South Korea.

FX’s Necaxa (August 8) is a bilingual Ryan Reynolds-Eva Longoria collaboration chronicling the relentless grit of a football team determined to defy underdog expectations and deliver hope to its city of Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Following the emotional journey of the players, fans and even the skeptics, viewers are brought onto the training pitch and into the locker room as Los Rayos chase a dream that lightning can strike again.
The Kingdom (August 15) is a six-part ESPN Original series about the Kansas City Chiefs’ storied history and remarkable modern-day dynasty, courtesy of unprecedented access to the team’s 2024 season.
And ahead of the September launch of Only Murders in the Building S5 are the August 1 arrivals of three Steve Martin movies (The Out-Of-Towners, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Leap of Faith) and one featuring the voice of Martin Short (Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius).
