New to Disney+ in July

The FX series The Old Man will stream on Disney+ from July 13.

The seven-part thriller, which stars Jeff Bridges an ex-CIA operative living off the grid who suddenly becomes a target of his old gang, has just been renewed and will open with a double-episode.

It launched two week ago in the US to rave reviews and became the most-watched cable series premiere since January 2021.

The Princess (July 1) is an action-packed fairy tale starring Joey King as a formidable young royal who is kidnapped and locked in a remote tower after refusing to wed the cruel sociopath to whom she is betrothed.

True-crime docu Captive Audience: A Real American Horror Story (July 6) explores the impact intense media scrutiny had on the lives of kidnapping survivor Steven Stayner and his brother Cary, a convicted serial killer.

The three-part series was well reviewed when it streamed on Hulu in April.

Eureka (July 13) is an animated series about a young prehistoric inventor who’s way ahead of her time, Aftershock (July 19) is a documentary about the disproportionate number of black women are failed every year by the U.S. maternal health system, and limited series The Deep End (July 20) is billed as “an arresting and provocative exploration inside the world of one of today’s most controversial spiritual teachers and her dedicated followers”.

Other highlights will include The Bob’s Burgers Movie (July 13), S3 premieres of Solar Opposites (July 13) and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (July 27), and Not Okay (July 29), a Star Original starring Zoey Deutch as an aimless, friendless aspiring writer who fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris and “returns” a hero after a terrifying incident in the City of Lights that risks exposing her as a fraud.

I remember Picket Fences, it’s got a Twin Peaks vibe ?

  2. The Old Man will be the best thing on Disney for a long time.
