New to Disney+ in July

Disney+ today released the official trailer for one of its July premieres, Washington Black.

It follows the 19th-century odyssey of George Washington “Wash” Black, an 11-year-old boy born on a Barbados sugar plantation whose prodigious scientific mind sets him on a path of unexpected destiny. Reads the blurb:

When a harrowing incident forces Wash to flee, he is thrust into a globe-spanning adventure that challenges and reshapes his understanding of family, freedom and love. As he navigates uncharted lands and impossible odds, Wash finds the courage to imagine a future beyond the confines of the society he was born into. The series stars Ernest Kingsley Jr., Rupert Graves, Iola Evans, Edward Bluemel, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Eddie Karanja, Tom Ellis and Sterling K. Brown.

All eight episodes will land on July 23.

Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story (July 11) is a National Geographic celebration of the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking blockbuster that Hollywood almost let get away.

Said a reviewer of the new 50th anniversary 4K-UHD Jaws release that includes this documentary: “We’ve heard a number of the history stories before, but it’s still exciting to hear them again. In fact, that’s the reason to enjoy the doc, just the simple excitement from all the people who love this film.”

It debuts in the wake of a “Sharkfest” season of documentaries (July 6): Sharks of the North, Sharks Up Close with Bertie Gregory and Investigation Shark Attack.

Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires (July 11) has zombie/cheerleader power couple Zed and Addison caught in the middle of a monster rivalry: Daywalkers v Vampires.

Preceding its premiere are singalong versions of the first three Zombies movies (July 2).
