New to Disney+ in May

RJ Decker is an offbeat ABC drama about a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private eye in South Florida.

Like Apple TV’s Bad Money, it’s based on a Carl Hiaasen novel but expect a softer take for network TV.

TV Fanatic dubbed it a fun procedural that, along with Disney+ stablemate High Potential, is shaking up the genre:

Not trying too hard. Not quirky for the sake of it. Just genuinely fun to watch, which shouldn’t feel revolutionary for a procedural, but here we are … They’re not blowing up the formula. They’re just giving it some room to breathe. And it works. Because as much as prestige TV has dominated the conversation, it’s also gotten exhausting.

Animal Kingdom’s Scott Speedman stars in a series that rated well with most critics but has still to get the thumbs-up for a second season.

Other May premieres include the movie The Testament of Ann Lee (May 13), The Punisher: One Last Kill (May 13), and, as previously posted, the return of Rivals (S2, May 15), Tucci in Italy (S2, May 12) and Welcome to Wrexham (S5, May 15).

ESPN has the NBA Playoffs: Conference Semi-Finals and Conference Finals, NHL Playoffs: Second Round and Conference Finals and UEFA Women’s Champions League Final (May 24).
