New to Disney+ in October

A slew of foreign language dramas debut on Disney+ in October, including the French miniseries Les Disparues de la Gare.

Inspired by the true story of a string of 1990s killings, when young girls were abducted and murdered around the train station in Perpignan, it focuses on the disappearance of one teenager who was never found.

A young police investigator teams with her captain and his mentor, who’s called back specifically for this extraordinary case long after being sidelined, while the mother of the missing girl explores every avenue to find her.

For 20 years, as a veritable psychosis gradually descends upon the city, the hunt for a ruthless but elusive serial killer rages on.

The six-part thriller was created by Gaëlle Bellan, who recalls:

I was 19 years old in 1999 and I resembled the profile of the women who disappeared at Perpignan train station. Without knowing that these crimes were taking place, I slept in front of that same station after missing a train connection. I realised years later that I could have been one of those victims. This disturbing closeness deeply affected me.

Disney’s latest Nordic original is an adaptation of Swedish author Mikael Niemi’s To Cook a Bear.

Filmed across more than 40 locations in Finland and northern Sweden, the six-part series is billed as “a dark thriller set against the stark landscape” of 1852.

Gustaf Skarsgård plays a new pastor who arrives with his family in the isolated village of Kengis, where his progressive sermons challenge the local authorities and inspire the impoverished farmers.

The tension in the community escalates when villagers begin to disappear, with rumours of bear attacks spreading fear.
