New to Disney+ in September

There’s still no word on when the fourth and final season of top British comedy Breeders will premiere on Disney+ — which is frustrating given the underwhelming slate of newcomers for September.

The Martin Freeman-Daisy Haggard parenthood gem has been streaming on Hulu since July 31, and the previous season landed here much closer to its US run.

Hopefully it will arrive in October for a 10-episode binge (the final streams September 25 on Hulu).

So don’t cancel that Disney+ sub yet, despite next month’s lacklustre line-up.

So-called “highlights” include season four of The Kardashians (September 28), the redundant live-action update of The Little Mermaid (September 6), and S2 of Guardians of the Galaxy spin-off I Am Groot (September 6) and football club docuseries Welcome to Wrexham (September 13).

One genuinely new debut is The Other Black Girl (September 13), a Star Original workplace thriller. Reads the blurb:

Nella, an editorial assistant, is tired of being the only Black girl at her company, so she’s excited when Hazel is hired. But as Hazel’s star begins to rise, Nella spirals out and discovers something sinister is going on at the company.

Hopefully it lives up to The Guardian’s review of the novel: “Part office satire, part thriller with a twist, this is a fresh and original take on race and class in the publishing industry.”

Here’s the rest of September’s highlights, largely a mix of classic Disney shorts that have been restored, obscure foreign shows and true-crime fodder:

I think that will change once Hulu has merged with Disney+ in the USA. Big changes are on the way 😁

  2. Any comment on Disney abandoning physical media/disc sale in this part of the world? The Mouse has severe myopia!

  3. Disney pulled out of physical media in this market a couple of years ago, thx1138. It was due to post-Covid rationalisation and trying to drive uptake of Disney+. JB Hi-Fi has been sourcing some of the bigger titles from Australia, so will be interesting to see if they source from the US with Disney abandoning the Oz physical media market, too.

  4. Thanks for the update 🙂 It’s been a while since I bought any Disney product. Despite their drawbacks, the BD/4K disc remains the pinnacle of home viewing, especially if you want good sound.
