New to Disney+ in September

Disney+ has yet to officially announce it for this market but expect it to unbox Toy Story 5 here the same time as in other territories — September 23 — while fans of ’80s drug wars drama Snowfall can get hooked on a spin-off.

FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga (September 9) follows Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons as they reinvent themselves in ’90s Los Angeles, where the crack epidemic’s fallout fuels the rise of West Coast rap. Reads the blurb:

Wanda chases a dream that could reshape culture alongside her cousins Lamar and James Kinsey and volatile local rapper Artillery, while separately, Leon seeks atonement. Ambition, loyalty and survival collide as everyone risks everything to build something lasting.

Other premieres include German vampire conspiracy series City of Blood (September 16), the movie Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Groguseason (September 2), season two of Chad Powers (September 3) and S5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (September 10).

Sports fans can stream new seasons of the NFL (September 10) and NBL (September 19) while the NFL’s first regular season game in Australia, Los Angeles Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers (September 11), will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

ESPN will provide a “dedicated localised live broadcast” on ESPN and Disney+, with wall-to-wall coverage during the build-up along with commentary, insights and a half-time headline performance from the Jonas Brothers.
