New to DocPlay in April and May

If you love documentaries and are seeking fresh streaming pastures beyond Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, TVNZ OnDemand and Lightbox, DocPlay could be your new field of dreams.

The Screen Australia-backed Madman Entertainment service launched nearly three-and-a-half years ago with more than 130 documentary movies, TV series and programmes.

It now has a library that tops 700 titles (600+ movies, 100+ series). Although only a handful are post-2018, there are some outstanding older titles, ranging from the French wartime TV franchise Apocalypse to the upcoming 2011 series, The Story of Film: An Odyssey.

NZ and Australian productions account for 40% of the DocPlay line-up, which covers 27 genres, from music, history and politics, to sport, fashion and science, and claims a “significant number” of exclusives.

During April the latter will include Jiro Dreams of Sushi and Midnight Family and classics Touching the Void and Super Size Me.

New titles are added twice weekly and the platform is across almost every streaming device (Samsung TV, Apple TV, desktop, tablet, mobile) for streaming in up to 1080p.

Subscribers can choose from a monthly fee of $A6.95 or an annual rate of $A69.50.
