New to DocPlay in November

This month streaming platform DocPlay will add exclusive documentaries about climate activist Greta Thunberg and global giants Mahatma Gandhi, Che Guevara and Nelson Mandela.

It bills Beyond the Myth (November 16) as a “captivating series” about the 20th century icons of peace and propaganda.

All three became international symbols in the struggle for independence, in the process orchestrating their own legend and using their personalities as weapons in a worldwide communication battle. These are their stories and the myths created around their iconic images, popularised by political and pop culture all over the world. The series further questions what remains of their myths, their failures, and what still inspires.

I Am Greta documentsThunberg ‘s rise through never-before-seen footage, “from the very first day she embarked on her solitary school strike in August 2018, through to September 2019 after sailing the Atlantic Ocean for two weeks to attend the United Nations climate summit.

“With intimate access, the film also explores the struggles she faces on a personal level as she reconciles being a teenager in the global spotlight.”

Also new will be Hands of God and Advocate (November 13).

The former is the true story of the Iraqi National Boxing Team – Waheed, Jafaar, and Saadi – and their amazing journey from desperation to the edge of an historical Olympic qualification.

They endured thirteen years of war, dozens of bombings each and every month, but their focus was on one goal: to become Olympic champions.

Advocate is about Lea Tsemel, a Jewish-Israeli lawyer who has represented Palestinian political prisoners for five decades, from feminists to fundamentalists, from non-violent demonstrators to armed militants.

As far as most Israelis are concerned, she defends the indefensible. As far as Palestinians are concerned, she’s more than an attorney, she’s an advocate.
