New to Lightbox in June

Lightbox will launch season three of The Handmaid’s Tale with three back-to-back episodes on June 6 (see the trailer here).

At least that will be some compensation for fans who have had to wait longer than normal for their fix (season two came out in April 2018).

Reads the blurb:

The third season is driven by titular handmaid June’s (Offred’s) resistance to the dystopian regime of Gilead, in which she finds herself once again after opting not to flee to Canada with her baby at the end of the second season.

Now, she will struggle to strike back against the regime against overwhelming odds. There will be startling reunions, betrayals and a journey to the terrifying heart of Gilead which forces all characters to take a stand, guided by one defiant prayer: “Blessed be the fight.”

Also back next month will be the third and final season of Mum (June 28), in which Cathy and her family decamp to the English countryside to celebrate Derek’s birthday.

Each episode observes a different day of the week, from their arrival on the Monday to the party on the Saturday, as Cathy takes a final step towards her future.

It will stream here a month after its BBC premiere; a US re-make is in the works.

Resurfacing the same day as Mum will be S2 of Below the Surface:

Following season one’s dramatic finale, Philip is on a leave of absence from Terror Task Force and begins to look into the mysterious disappearance of a former acquaintance. Philip’s search leads him on board a passenger ferry en route to Sweden, but when the situation escalates and terrorists take the entire ferry hostage, Philip finds himself in the middle of an international political crisis.

Lightbox also will dust off two Joanna Lumley relics (June 7): The Search for Noah’s Ark (2012) and In the Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon (1997).
