New to Neon in April

The Sympathizer (April 1) is billed an espionage thriller/cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles — where he learns his spying days aren’t over.

The cast include Hoa Xuande, Sandra Oh and Robert Downey Jr, who plays multiple roles.

“Though the satirical story of duelling allegiances will make for a hell of a series, audiences will surely love Downey Jr’s mix of supporting roles,” Esquire predicts.

The Synanon Fix (April 3) is an HBO documentary series about the rise and fall of Synanon, a religious movement originally known as Tender Loving Care that turned into a cult — albeit not an “obvious” one.

On the Roam (April 22) follows Jason Momoa as he travels across the US to meet extraordinary trailblazers, from craftsmen and motorcycle fabricators to musicians and athletes.

Quacks (April 30) is a “deliciously gruesome comedy-drama” set in 1840s London. Named after four competitively cut-throat surgeons, the 2017 BBC2 comedy stars Rory Kinnear and Mathew Baynton.

Quipped The Guardian: “Quacks is my kind of costume drama: one where bladder infections are treated with vegetables, man-baby medics get twatted on nitrous oxide and ether cocktails, and the jokes are so good they might just prove fatal.”

Also new are S1-5 of Fringe (April 5), Louis Theroux Interviews S2 (April 9), S1 of School of Rock (April 12),  S9b of PAW Patrol (April 15), S1 of Damnation (April 16), S6b of Bubble Guppies (April 17), S3 of La Brea (April 19) and S2 of Night Court (April 24).
