New to Neon in August

Two prequels premiere in August on Neon: Outlander: Blood of My Blood and Dexter: Original Sin.
The Outlander origin story is set across two different time periods, from the war-torn battlefields of WWI where Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, meet to the sweeping Highlands of 18th century Scotland where Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser reside.
Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine star.
The series already has been renewed for S2 ahead of its August 8 launch on Starz (here it streams from August 19, with weekly episodes landing 1pm Saturdays).
“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of my Blood has been extraordinary and we’re thrilled to continue these epic love stories in season two,” showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts said.
“Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamoured by these new couples when they meet them this summer.”
Available from August 1 is the story of how a young Dexter Morgan, in 1991 Miama, transitions from student to vigilante serial killer courtesy of his father, Detective Harry Morgan.
US critics seemed to enjoy this spin-off more than the sequel, Dexter: Resurrection.
It earned a 70% critics’ approval on Rotten Tomatoes, although the website summed it up thus: “Original Sin cares less about injecting fresh blood than reviving a tried-and-true formula, making for a prequel that’s just solid enough to scratch the Dexter itch with a scalpel.”
George Clarke’s Homes in the Wild (August 14) streams the same time it airs on Sky Open.
A Sky New Zealand Originals, made with the support of NZ on Air, it follows UK architect George Clarke to some of “the most remote and awe-inspiring homes” in NZ and Australia. Reads the blurb:
Each episode uncovers the grit, creativity, and resilience it takes to construct and sustain a home in such extreme environments – where weather, access, and distance from everyday conveniences test even the toughest pioneers.
