New to Neon in August
Next month Neon will stream the NZ premiere of Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind.
Told largely through Williams’ own words, and using previously unheard and unseen glimpses into his creative process, it covers his rise from the wild days of late-1970s LA to his death in 2014.
Variety said it’s “sharp-edged, humane, and deeply researched enough to take you closer to the manic engine of Williams’ brilliance and pain than you were before.”
The smartest decision made by the director, Marina Zenovich, was to use a great many never-before-seen outtakes, as well as clips from obscure or forgotten performances, so that Williams’ routines hit the audience with a fresh ping.
Also new to Neon will be Spielberg, another HBO doco that first screened on a Sky pop-up channel dedicated to its namesake.
Reviews ranged from “a worthwhile appreciation of one of Hollywood’s all-time greats” (Entertainment Weekly) to “it doesn’t strive to move past the mythos and into the mind of an iconic artist who continues to make bold, challenging work” (The Atlantic).
Meanwhile, Picnic at Hanging Rock and arguably the year’s best drama, Patrick Melrose, are the latest SoHo series you’ll be able to stream from next month on Neon.
Also new will be the comedy 9JKL, which originally aired on Three, and new seasons of Madame Secretary (S4), Fear the Walking Dead (S4B), Bull (S2), MacGyver (S2) and Regular Show (S4).
Box sets of The Sopranos, Veep, Sons of Anarchy and Insecure will also be available to stream.
Movie premieres will include It, Thor: Ragnarok and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
Game of Thrones remains Neon’s most streamed drawcard, followed by: Westworld, Paw Patrol, Younger, Nashville, Fear the Walking Dead, Sex and the City, Shameless, Strike Back, The Flash, The Leftovers, Rizzoli & Isles, The Arrangement, Supergirl, The Walking Dead, Supernatural, Rome, True Blood, True Detective, Moana, The Thunderdomes, Despicable Me 3, Girls and Silicon Valley.

Wow! Neon is really adding some great stuff. I had it a while back and thought it was okay but not great but there’s plenty there I’d like to watch.
