New to Neon in February

The streaming premiere of Sky NZ Original Miles from Nowhere (February 22) and the 12th and final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm (February 5) headline next month’s attractions on Neon.

Miles from Nowhere is billed as “a bold six-part drama-comedy series about the everyday and not-so-everyday experiences of the Muslim diaspora” in NZ.

It stars Arlo Green (Nautilus, M3GAN) as a young Kiwi-Muslim songwriter who forms a dangerous friendship with the Security Intelligence Service agent spying on him.

Nautilus‘ Sami Afuni and Roxie Mohebbi (Shortland Street, Kid Sister) co-star.

Created and written by journalist, writer and poet Mohamed Hassan, the series is based on his experiences (and those of his community) as well as his reporting on real-world surveillance, counter-terrorism and Islamophobia.

“We want to share a story that uses laughter, music and surrealism to tell a dark but hopeful story about the tribulations of youth, overcoming mental illness and ultimately finding a unique place in the world,” Hassan says.

An early review based on a Red Sea International Film Festival screening dubbed it “a sweet little comedy about some rather unsavoury topics.

“Hate, prejudice and intolerance are not easily digestible. And you should never swallow them. This journalist has seen the first two parts of a six-episode Sky Original series. Stick around for more bittersweet flavours to come.”

The series also will screen on Sky Open and Sky Go.

Neon’s other highlights include NZ science series Dynamic Planet from the Dame Julie Christie-owned NHNZ Worldwide (February 4), the latest seasons of FBI and FBI: Most Wanted (February 15), and the seventh and final season of The Good Doctor (February 22).

If you haven’t seen enough of them free-to-air, you can binge Parks and Recreation S1-7 (February 2) and 30 Rock S1-7 (February 5) while S1-2 of the Idris Elba comedy series In the Long Run is back for another run (February 9).

For the kids, there’s Big Nate S1 (February 1), The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe S1-3 (February 2), Exchange Student Zero S1 (February 10), Craig of the Creek S2-4 (February 16) and Regular Show S8 (February 23).

Other newcomers include Katy Keene S1 (February 7), Kay and Peele S1-4 (February 14), Catfish: The TV Show Show S8F (February 16), and the two-part Alex Gibney-directed documentary about those behind the US opioid crisis, The Crime of the Century (February 26).
