New to Neon in January
The latest HBO Max original to stream on Neon will be Suicide Squad origins sequel Peacemaker.
It stars John Cena as the superhero “who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, series creator James Gunn, who also wrote and directed The Suicide Squad, told reporters in September that Peacemaker “has a lot to learn.
It’s that ability to learn that for me makes him a little bit more likable. His blind spots in some places are pretty terrible, and in some places are him being ignorant. I think that’s an important distinction to make as well. He is open at the same time, sometimes.
The series picks up after the events of Suicide Squad and will stream from January 14.
New from January 25 will be The Gilded Age, Julian Fellowes’ HBO drama about the millionaire titans of 1880s New York City.
It stars Cynthia Nixon (And Just Like That …), Christine Baranaski (The Good Fight), Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story), Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love) and Carrie Coon (The Leftovers).
Liverpool Narcos (January 17) explores how the city became the epicentre of the global drug in the 1980s and 1990s.
Said The Guardian: “This series about the influx of drugs into Merseyside in the 80s is all about heroin and hard men, with crime-movie tropes – and the occasional nod to its own absurdity.”
Fires (January 2) was hailed as a “profoundly moving six-part anthology” by the Sydney Morning Herald.
In its dramatisation of the horror of the 2019-20 bushfires, it tackles a tale of national and international significance with a power that reflects the widespread impact and a sensitivity to individual experience that renders its tales relatable and universal.
Returning for new seasons will be The Wine Show (S3, January 5), A Discovery of Witches (S3, January 9), Euphoria (S2, January 10), The Righteous Gemstones (S2, January 11), Frayed (S2, January 19) and Billions (S6, January 24).
All of these series, except Billions, also will stream on Sky Go.
Movie premieres will include F9: The Fast Saga, Antlers, Chaos Walking and Ron’s Gone Wrong.
