New to Neon in July

Full Circle (July 14)

An investigation into a botched kidnapping uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in present-day New York City. Steven Soderbergh directs Claire Danes, Timothy Olyphant, Dennis Quiad and Zazie Beetz. Following Full Circle’s Tribeca film festival premiere, The Playlist dubbed it a “Traffic-esque throwback” for Soderbergh, who collaborated on the HBO series with his No Sudden Move scribe Ed Solomon. “The first two episodes teased the collapse of boundaries between stories set in Guyana and New York City. It feels like a throwback to his Traffic era as characters come to realise their interconnected struggles across porous national borders.

Everyone Else Burns (July 5)

A coming-of-age British comedy about a Mancunian family and the puritanical Christian sect they are devoted to. How does an idiosyncratic family navigating modern day life protect themselves from eternal hell fire? The Channel 4 series bills itself as “a subversive, authentic and bitingly funny exploration into what it feels like to balance faith, family and identity in a world that could end tomorrow (but probably won’t)”. The Telegraph said it offered much to enjoy — “It’s not a comedy going for cheap laughs about Christianity. It is a show about family, and it has a lot of heart” — while The Guardian quipped: “With perfect jokes that come this thick and fast, you’ll be an instant convert.”

Also new will be Angel City (July 1), a three-part HBO docuseries about the founding season of the Natalie Portman-co owned professional women’s soccer team, Angel City Football Club, and the latest seasons of Five Bedrooms (July 2), Warrior (July 3), The Goldbergs (July 6), What We Do in the Shadows (July 16) and Grand Crew (July 26).

All five seasons of Gotham also will be available from July 13.

I notice on Neon they don’t have seasons 1-3 of CB Strike. I guess that’s where ThreeNow got them from 🤔

  2. That’s right, Trevor, it seems virtually everything turns up somewhere else now …

  3. CB Strike Lethal White (S3) and Troubled Waters (S4) are both still available on SkyGo. Does this mean that TVNZ has lost all seasons of Gotham to Sky?

  4. Hard to say, Mike. Sky might have just SVOD rights and TVNZ linear and AVOD.

  5. I think there will be quite a few shows and movies going from Neon to ThreeNow 🤔
