New to Neon in July

A terrific raft of documentaries distinguishes next month’s newcomers on Neon.

Lockerbie (July 2), which is about to conclude its Sunday night run on Sky Open, is a riveting investigation into the bombing of a PanAm jet over a Scottish village in 1988.

Brandy Hellville & the Cult of Fast Fashion (July 2) exposes exploitation in the fashion industry while The Truth About Jim (July 9) is named after a science teacher who for 30 years violated young women — until his adult granddaughter started asking questions.

They Called Him Mostly Harmless (July 21) is another true-crime HBOMax original, about Internet sleuths and “a miracle of science” identifying a lone hiker who died in the Florida wilderness and the reasons behind his disappearance.

Jared from Subway: Catching a Monster (July 21) is an ID account of the fast-food weight-loss icon whose cravings turned out to be much more sinister.

And The Life and Deaths of Christopher Lee (July 23) goes behind the screams of the Hammer Horror star’s career, which spanned eight decades and nearly 300 movies to include franchises like Jame Bond, The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

Also new is Conan O’Brien Must Go (July 1), in which the talk show host visits Norway, Argentina, Thailand, and Ireland to meet some of his most dedicated podcast listeners.

The “delightfully idiotic” series has been renewed for a second season.

Other newcomers include Mr Bigstuff (July 17) and We Are Lady Parts S2 (July 18).

The former is a Sky UK comedy about an anxious perfectionist and his fantasist fiancee whose lives are upended when his estranged brother, an Alpha male drug addict, moves in.

Extended Family (July 24) is an undistinguished NBC sitcom while Corporate S1-3 (July 17) is a well-reviewed Comedy Central workplace comedy.

Next month’s premieres also include several back-catalogue series already streaming on TVNZ+ or ThreeNow:

  • 1000-lb Sisters S4 (July 3)
  • Everything I Know About Love (July 4)
  • Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV (July 7)
