American Hostage is a true-crime podcast adaptation for MGM+ but because it was produced by Sony Pictures Television, will stream here on Neon through Sky’s deal with SPT.
A psychological thriller set in the 1970s, it stars Jon Hamm as Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or- death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular news radio show.
Hamm voiced the same character on the 2022 podcast, which The Times described as “enjoyably slick, impressively mixed audio action”.
The TV series was created and executive produced by Shawn Ryan (The Night Agent, S.W.A.T.) and Eileen Myers (Big Love, Mad Dogs).
Here’s the trailer.
Also new in September are season two of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Saturday Night Live UK S2, South Park S29 (with new eps rolling out biweekly), and Kiwi comedies Urzila and Good Bones.
South-African born NZ comedian Urzila Carlson’s first series combines stand-up and bombastic sketches that the publicity promises are “bold, boisterous, and unmistakably Urzila”.
Tom Sainsbury, Chris Parker, Madeleine Sami and Abby Howells co-star.
Good Bones stars Josh Thomson as a risk-averse bank employee who panic-buys a crumbling “as-is” house at auction that’s not only a money pit but also where an Olympic hopeful vanished without a trace years earlier.
Aidee Walker, Michael Hurst, Craig Hall, Justine Smith and Mark Wright co-star.
