New to Neon/Max in June

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light (June 24) is the jewel in the crown of June’s premieres on Neon.

It lands here surprisingly late, having first screened on the BBC in November/December.

The Guardian hailed the right royally acclaimed Tudor drama as “six hours of utter TV magic … The final instalment of Hilary Mantel’s masterpiece is the most intricate television you are ever likely to see. It is so beautifully made it’s breathtaking.”

Variety said its depiction of Thomas Cromwell’s ascent to Lord Privy Seal and the final four years of his life was “beautifully acted and textured with the style and setting of 16th-century England … [but] doesn’t quite have the same thrilling tones as its predecessor.

“Though there are stunning revelations, it’s a dense internal examination of a man who can feel his time running out.”

Kiwi mental health docuseries Mind Menders (June 8), Castle Rock S1-2 (June 3), The Neighborhood S6-7 (June 10) and Silent Witness S26 (June 25) complete the rest of June’s TV premieres while new to Max is S3 of The Gilded Age (June 23).
