The House of The Spirits, an epic family saga set amid the backdrop of bloody revolution, is Prime Video’s most ambitious Latin American original yet.

It follows three generations of women as they navigate life in a conservative South American nation marked by class conflict, political turmoil and touches of magical realism. Reads the blurb:

The Trueba family’s passions, struggles, and secrets span a century of violent social change, culminating in a crisis that hurls the proud, tyrannical patriarch and his beloved granddaughter towards opposite sides of the fence.

“The House of the Spirits represents everything we believe in at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios – our commitment to empowering visionary creators to tell culturally authentic stories that resonate globally,” Javiera Balmaceda, head of local originals, Latin America, Canada & Australia, said at the 76th Berlin Film Festival, where the eight-part series premiered in February.

Also new in April are the fifth and final season of The Boys, the movies Balls Up and Greenland 2: Migration, a revival of American Gladiators, and the animated comedy series, Kevin, that was loosely inspired by a real-life break-up and the cat who was caught in the middle and consigned to a Queens pet rescue centre.

Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza, Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, Aparna Nancherla, Gil Ozeri and Amy Sedaris lend their voices.
