Next month’s headline act on Prime Video is the season two premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (August 29).

“The new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity,” reads the blurb

Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots … as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all … each other.

View the teaser trailer here; the premiere coincides with The Hobbit trilogy’s availability from August 15.

Other TV premiere include S2 of sci-fi series Beacon 23 (August 2), S3 of lightweight odd-couple procedural The Mallorca Files (August 8) and Batman: Caped Crusader (August 1), an animated reimagining of the Batman mythology.

Batman’s vocal cast includes Hamish Linklater, Diedrich Bader, Christina Ricci, Minnie Driver, Haley Joel Osment and Toby Stephens.

Leading the new original movies is Jackpot! (August 15), a comedic thriller about a grand lottery scheme in which the winner must survive being killed before sundown to claim the prize.

Awkwafina and John Cena star; view the trailer here.

Inspired by Nicholas Hogg’s 2015 novel Tokyo Nobody, A Sacrifice (August 2) is an emotionally turbulent story about an American social psychologist investigating a local Berlin cult connected to disturbing events.

While he immerses himself in his work, his rebellious teenage daughter becomes embroiled with a mysterious local boy who introduces her to the city’s underground party scene.

Eric Bana stars; view the trailer here.
