New to Rialto in April

Two TV series premieres to watch for next month on Sky’s Rialto channel are British drama The Accident and Nordic thriller Twin.

The latter (8.30 Tuesdays from April 7) is an eight-part crime drama about estranged identical twin brothers: Erik, a broke surfer bum, and Adam, a successful family and businessman.

Soon after reuniting for the first time in 15 years, Adam accidentally dies and Erik assumes his brother’s identity.

“It’s a setup that’s legitimately noir, and suspicion is a major strand of the plot,” said the New York Times.

“[It] holds your interest, and has some emotional heft, as a straightforward drama with elements of fish-out-of-water comedy.”

The Accident (8.30 Sundays from April 19) is a true-life dramatisation about a community seeking justice when eight local children die in a construction site explosion.

“Writer Jack Thorne has constructed his drama with an almost mathematical approach to apportioning blame,” wrote the Financial Times while the Daily Mail said “the emotional power of the story was undeniable”.

Women Make Film: A New Road Movie Through Cinema is billed as an “epic exploration of cinema history” through the lens of some of the greatest women directors.

Writer/director Mark Cousin spent five years making the 14-hour series, which will air in double-episodes from April 1.

Other April premieres will include:

  • Paul Callaghan: Dancing With Atoms (April 2)
  • Varda By Agnès (April 3)
  • Ophelia (April 4)
  • Happy Ending (April 6)
  • A Seat At The Table (April 9)
  • One Last Deal (April 13)
  • Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blache (April 17)
  • Robin (April 20)
  • Celia (April 23)
  • Under the Tree (April 27)
  • Karamea (April 30).
