New to Shudder in July

Horror streaming service Shudder has released a new trailer for Good Madam, one of five original and exclusive movies premiering in July.

Officially selected for the Toronto International Film Festival, it’s about a South African solo mother who’s forced to move in with her own, estranged mother, a live-in carer for her catatonic wealthy white ‘madam’ in a gated Cape Town community.

As she tries to mend family ties, a sinister spectre begins to stir …

Screen Daily said writer/director Jenna Cato Bass’ movie “expertly blends satirical social commentary and disturbing horror tropes to shine a light on the appalling racial and economic divides that still shape the country 30 years after the end of apartheid”.

The other newcomers are:

On the 3rd Day (July 7): While on a trip with her young son, Cecilia has a car accident. Three days later, she finds herself wandering a lonely road with no sign of her child – and no memory of what happened since the crash. Cecilia’s desperate search for her son leads her on a wrenching and tumultuous journey to face off against a religious fanatic who holds the shocking key to it all.

Moloch (July 21): 38-year-old Betriek lives at the edge of a peat bog in the north of the Netherlands. When she and her family are attacked by a random stranger one night, Betriek sets out to find an explanation. The more she digs, the more she becomes convinced that she is being hunted by something ancient.

This is GWAR (July 21): This feature documentary includes interviews with the heavy metal band members, both past and present, and other artists, including Weird Al Yankovic, Thomas Lennon, Alex Winter, Bam Margera, and Ethan Embry, including never seen footage of legendary GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus).

The Reef: Stalked (July 29): Three friends travel to a remote Pacific Island for a kayaking and diving adventure, only to be stalked and attacked by a Great White shark. Andrew Traucki directs the sequel to his 2010 movie.
