It seems Sky is wanting to buy MediaWorks but why? It doesn’t make any sense and it seems the sharemarket agrees with me ?
It would make Sky a much stronger proposition for someone to buy and Sky could exploit crossover opportunities for MediaWorks’ high-profile ex-TV talent (Duncan Garner, Tova O’Brien …).
MediaWorks is currently making a loss, it’s probably quite cheap for owning 50% of the radio space, tier 2 talent and it also owns outside advertising. I think this is a clever move by the board to diversify away from their current narrow business model and as Philip has pointed out, it’ll make Sky attractive to the bigger content providers out there (or it’s already part of a deal).
That’s interesting Philip. Do you think Warner Bros. Discovery or Disney may look into buying Sky. Actually, would they be allowed to ?
