New to Sky Box Sets in June

Next month Sky Box Sets will premiere the graphic novel adaptation Happy!.

It stars Law & Order: SVU’s Christopher Meloni as a drunk ex-cop turned hit man who wakes up in hospital with an imaginary friend — a blue winged unicorn named Happy — who helps him to rescue his estranged daughter from a Very Bad Santa.

“Happy! is about a killer and his talking animal,” Entertainment Weekly said upon its US debut five months ago.

“It’s an attention-getting high concept for Syfy, a network that wants recognition for something besides Sharknado. The bad behavior is fun, but the plot construction can feel thin.”

“It could run out of ideas fast,” the New York Times concurred, “but watching Mr. Meloni argue with a cartoon unicorn probably won’t get old.”

But CNN thought it an “odd fit” for Syfy, “closer in tone to AMC’s Preacher than anything else, with perhaps a touch of another graphic novel brought to screen, Sin City, for good measure.”

Also coming to SBS next month for the first time are Game of Thrones, Masters of Sex and Band of Brothers.
