New to SoHo in October
Here’s some pretty, pretty, pretty good news: Curb Your Enthusiasm will return for its 11th season in the last week of October.
The premiere date for the Larry David comedy has yet to be disclosed but it will stream on Neon a couple of days ahead of SoHo — and only 18 months after S10 first screened.
“That’s a remarkably fast turnaround from Larry David and co., especially given the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic, with fans previously waiting six years for season nine and three years for season 10,” Radio Times observed.
“Speaking after the show’s renewal, Larry David joked: ‘Believe me, I’m as upset about this as you are. One day I can only hope that HBO will come to their senses and grant me the cancellation I so richly deserve.’”
David’s co-star, Jeff Garlin, says only the first episode will touch on COVID-19.
“It’s a post-COVID world in Curb. Which, I spoke of how much I love South Park. South Park had, the first COVID issue they did – so well written, so well done.
“I didn’t laugh once. People don’t want to watch COVID stories. We’ve got our own COVID stories. Get them away from me.”
Also new to SoHo will be S3 of Succession (9.30 Mondays from October 18), S2 of We’re Here (8.30 Fridays from October 22), and S5 of Insecure (8.00 Thursdays from October 28).
SoHo also will screen the movie Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage (October 11, 8.30), which is billed as focussing” a spotlight on American youth at the end of the millennium, in the shadow of Columbine and the looming hysteria of Y2K, pinpointing a moment in time when the angst of a generation galvanised into a seismic cultural shift”.
The HBO Max documentary premiered on the streaming service in July, when it averaged a 99% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes: “Documents the notorious music festival like an unraveling horror film to visceral effect, presenting a flashpoint in cultural nadir while suggesting that it was also a sign of troubles to come.
