New to ThreeNow in August

The Assassin (August 3) was made for Prime Video internationally but here is one of August’s premieres on ThreeNow.

That’s great news if you’re not a Prime Video subscriber but those who are miss out on viewing it ad-free in 4K-UHD (Stan holds the Australian rights).

It stars Keeley Hawes as a retired assassin who teams with her estranged son (The Good Doctor’s Freddie Highmore) to uncover a dark conspiracy that’s not their only threat.

They also have to counter a danger from the past that could totally destroy their relationship.

Expect complications aplenty, as it’s another intricate six-part thriller from brothers Jack and Harry Williams (The Tourist, The Missing).

The Family Next Door (August 11) is a six-part Australian drama set in seaside cul-de-sac where an enigmatic new resident’s obsession with solving a mystery casts suspicion on four neighbouring families.

Teresa Palmer (The Clearing, The Fall Guy), Bella Heathcote (The Moogai, Pieces of Her) and Philippa Northeast (The Newsreader) star.

“The Family Next Door is a funny and authentic portrayal of suburban life and exploration of motherhood, underpinned by a compelling mystery,” ABC Head of Scripted, Rachel Okine said when it went into production.

The Fall of Diddy (August 13) is a Discovery docuseries about hip-hop icon Sean Combs that promises to pull back the curtain on his empire “and the allegations of violence and abuse kept quiet for years”. Reads the blurb:

The series features never-before-seen archive and draws from dozens of new and exclusive interviews with childhood friends, key employees, cultural figures, and survivors, many coming forward for the first time, to reveal harrowing and life-changing stories. It’s a chilling chronicle that redefines a music mogul and business titan that everyone thought they knew.

Also new, but with dates still confidential because they debut the same time on Three, are comedian Guy Williams’ latest take on Kiwiville, New Zealand Tomorrow!, S2 of Paddy Gower Has Issues, SAS: US S3 and quiz show The Floor Australia.

It’s named after the giant LED floor on which 81 contestants compete to win their opponents’ tiles to wipe the floor with them.

Other newcomers include Vinnie Jones in the Country S2 (August 20), Seeking Sister Wife S5 (August 23) and Brassic S1-4 (August 15), the gritty, ribald UK comedy that’s already screened on Sky and can be streamed ad-free in 4K-UHD on Netflix.

  1. Another month and still no sign of The Newsreader season three, sigh! Is any other platform picking this up Philip? — Leo.

  2. Sorry, Leo, WBD has confirmed it won’t be picking up S3.

  3. How are dates confidential? It makes zero sense to hide this information. We require broadcast dates in advance. It’s frustrating. Ask the networks this on why they don’t provide advance dates. This is to make people get excited and hyped for upcoming content. — Fsmith.

  4. Cheers, Philip, for chasing that up. I guess it may wind up on Netflix or Prime Video. — Leo.
