New to ThreeNow in August
Six Four, a UK crime drama about a missing teenager in Glasgow, streams on ThreeNow from August 2.
Inspired by Hideo Yokoyama’s best-seller, it’s billed as “a dark and compelling story of kidnap, corruption, betrayal and an uncompromising search for the truth”.
Kevin McKidd plays a detective whose daughter vanishes amid his re-opening of an unsolved abduction case that his brother investigated.
Vinette Robinson co-stars as his wife, a former undercover officer who uses her underworld experience to try to track down their daughter — who turns not to be his biological child.
While they search for the teenager, the daughter of the Justice Minister is suddenly kidnapped …
“While it might sound like the plot is a little bit all over the place, the steady pacing and the careful focus on a small number of interesting characters make it easy to keep track,” the Evening Standard said.
“It’s also only four episodes long, perfect for someone who hasn’t got the patience (me) to sit through 10 of them in order to get the the ‘whodunnit’ part.”
While the ES thought it “tight, thrilling and full of twists and turns”, The Telegraph deep-sixed Six Four as a “dreary affair” that “fails to make use of great actors”.
In the season one premiere of Downey’s Dream Cars (August 4), Robert Downey Jr. combines his passion for restoring classic cars with his dedication to fighting climate change by making them faster, more powerful and more efficient.
“The last three years have been an experiment in hope, as I engaged the best and brightest minds to evaluate, educate, elevate, and decarbonise these vehicles in a way that demonstrates the limitless potential of creative problem solving,” the Iron Man star says.
“It was a huge challenge and an enlightening journey.”
Shaun White: The Last Run (August 10) is a four-part documentary about the athlete’s early battles with a congenital heart condition, the sacrifices made by his unconventional yet incredibly supportive parents, and how he won more Olympic gold medals for snowboarding than anyone else.
Michael Mosley’s Secrets of the Superagers (August 15) is a six-part series that uncovers the hidden secrets of people who defy the ageing process and maintain exceptional cognitive abilities well into their later years. Reads the blurb:
Through a combination of scientific research, personal stories, and expert interviews, Mosley delves into the factors that contribute to their remarkable brain health and vitality. He investigates various lifestyle choices, including exercise routines, diets, social interactions, and mental stimulation, to unravel the key ingredients that enable Superagers to maintain their cognitive prowess.
Also new are: 90 Day Fiancé S8 (August 15), Kim vs Kanye: The Divorce (August 23), 100 Foot Wave S1 (August 24) and Zara McDermott Disorded Eating (August 28).
Dates have yet to be diclosed but ThreeNow will stream ahead of their broadcast debuts Kiwi drama series Far North, the latest season of David Lomas Investigates and The Traitors NZ.
