New to ThreeNow in February

ThreeNow is picking up the Disney+ procedural Will Trent.

Two seasons of the acclaimed crime drama already can be streamed on Disney+; ThreeNow will offer both from February 23. (S3 went to air this month in the US and should turn up next month on Disney+.)

Based on Karin Slaughter’s best-selling series, it stars Ramon Rodrigues as Special Agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who uses his harsh coming-of-age as an abandoned child in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system to score the highest clearance rate in the GBI.

“Will Trent quickly emerges as an above-average broadcast TV procedural — even if it’s exactly those structural trappings that so frequently undermine it,” The Hollywood Reporter said while Variety thought it “admirably open to presenting its characters as something other than brilliant supercops”.

New Kiwi comedy Vince (which also will air on Three at a date to be advised) stars Jono Pryor as a self-absorbed TV host in his forties who has always put his career before his family.

When a bratty child at a hospital event pulls down Vince’s trousers, leaving him exposed on live TV surrounded by nurses and children, he tries to restore his reputation while repairing his damaged relationship with his daughter. Reads the blurb:

Vince promises to be a comedic rollercoaster ride that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Join Vince as he tries to claw his way back into the cutthroat world of television while also learning to be a better person and father.

Lomu: The Lost Tapes (TBA) tells the story of the All Black legend in his own words, through rediscovered interviews and personal footage recorded between 2001 and 2005. Reads the blurb:

For the first time ever, Lomu’s extraordinary life is recounted through previously unreleased footage that captures the raw and intimate moments from his memorable life. Narrated by friend and former All Blacks teammate Sean Fitzpatrick, who captained the team during Lomu’s meteoric rise to fame in the 1990s. The documentary also delves into the profound effect he had on the sport, inspiring future generations and leaving an indelible mark on the game. His story is one of determination, talent, and the enduring human spirit.

Also new next month are Married at First Sight Australia S12, SAS S6 and 9-1-1 S8, all of which will launch the same time on Three (TBA), Sister Wives S11 two-part special, Christine & David’s Wedding (February 26), and every season of Shameless US and The Middle, which has been re-run extensively on TVNZ 2 and Sky Open (TBA).

Murder Under the Friday Night Lights S1-3 explores small-town murders linked to high school football (February 1); Hustlers Gamblers Crooks reveals the shocking truth of high-stakes gambling and the people who risk everything to win big (February 8); and Lethally Blonde tells the stories of everyday young women who use sex appeal as a path to power (February 15) .

  1. I find myself watching Discovery’s channels less and less. Uninspired content, multiple repeats, technical issues. The other night all their channels were suffering from audio sync issues … again. Is Discovery spending any money on their NZ operations? — thx1138.
