New to ThreeNow in February

February is a veritable crime wave on ThreeNow, with returning thrillers including the complete season two of Patience (February 15).

It’s named after an autistic with unusual powers of detection who helps York police to solve mysterious crimes. Reads the S2 blurb:

When new detective Frankie Monroe bursts onto the scene, their differences spark tension – but they must learn to work as a team. As they investigate cases of murder and mystery across the city, Patience brings her unique insight to the cases. Meanwhile, off duty she continues to search for her mother and navigates the ups and downs of new love.

Jessica Hynes (Monroe) replaces Laura Fraser’s DI Bea Metcalf in a casting shake-up that Channel 4 says will deliver a “different dynamic”.

“She’s jarring and a disrupter, but her irksomeness really works,” Digital Spy said.

“However, issues that existed in season one still persist, the series can still be ‘frustratingly blunt and obvious‘ in places …

“The charm of the show outweighs its flaws though, and the new leading duo have a different, maybe even a more intriguing, appeal than Bea and Patience did.”

Already streaming is S2 of Red Eye, in which DS Hana Li and Head of Embassy Security Clay Brody set aside past differences to solve a new high-stakes conspiracy after a murder inside the US Embassy.

“This is a flight you can probably avoid,” The Times quipped but the Daily Mail thought it “slick, fast-moving” while The Age praised its 24-style “dedication to its twisty goals”.

ThreeNow also gains for the first time FBI (S7) and FBI: Most Wanted (S6) from February 9 as well as S9 of 9-1-1 from February 10.

S13 of Married at First Sight Australia streams from February 9 and S18 of 7 Days from later in the month.
