New to ThreeNow in November

As well as a raft of top-flight dramas, ThreeNow has a swag of unscripted newcomers lined up for next month.

Perennial reno hit The Block Australia returns for its 21st season while back to break more hearts is dating crowdpleaser Married at First Sight UK, alongside it US sister show.

The Block, which has been running since July on the Nine Network, introduces a format change with houses being built from scratch in the exact same layout and size.

An AI summation of the season-to-date says: “Reviews are mixed, with viewers praising the high-quality backyard reveals and impressive final results, while also criticising the ongoing team conflicts, perceived lack of renovation focus, and rule-bending.”

Here’s a who’s-who of MAFS UK ’25, which one critic, hitherto a big fan, called “boring and feels like an utter slog to watch”.

However, it launched with high ratings and helped Channel 4 to notch up a “massive streaming win” in September.

There’s also more of The Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers with not only another season but also the spin-off The Inspired Unemployed: The List.

It’s a new travel show format for Matt ‘Falcon’ Ford and Jack Steele, ScreenHub reports:

Well, not exactly. They may have always dreamed of a series where they travel the globe ticking off items on their bucket list, but The Inspired Unemployed: The List has them taking on a very different kind of journey. They’re still seeing the world (across the six episodes they visit Germany, Japan, India, Finland, South Africa and Malaysia), but their dream job has turned into something of a nightmare.

Returning for its second season is the father-daughter comedy Daddy Issues, starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey.

S1 was BBC Three’s biggest comedy launch since 2022; the six-part S2 continues with Gemma (Wood) and Malcolm (Morrissey) adjusting to life with the newest member of the family, baby Sadie.

Heading the distinguished drama premieres, as posted previously, are:

Also of note are S1-7 of Shetland, 2022 Aidan Turner thriller The Suspect (which previously streamed on TVNZ+), and Starz period regal dramas Becoming Elizabeth (also ex-TVNZ+) and the superior The Serpent Queen S1-2.

The Serpent Queen is new to this market. It ran from 2022-24 and stars Samantha Morton in an adaptation of the book, Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France.

According to the Rotten Tomatoes consensus, “The Serpent Queen dramatises one of history’s most infamous monarchs with a deft, sardonic touch, with Samantha Morton’s commanding star turn likely to swallow viewers’ attention whole.”

  1. Great to hear that the Aussie series The Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers and spin-off The Inspired Unemployed: The List are both here on TV3. I only recently came across them on the plane to the US, but didn’t realise they had been screened here in NZ (or were they just on demand?). Lots of episodes to catch up now on ThreeNow! :-) — Dave.
