New to TVNZ+: April 12-18

What does the world’s richest man, dedicated chaos agent, and Donald Trump’s new best buddy want out of politics? To shape the world? Or is it bigger than that?

That’s the tagline for the Channel 4 documentary, Can Elon Musk Rule The World? (April 18).

“Why does the world’s richest man want to become a civil servant?” pondered The Times.

“It’s a good question, which Matt Frei addressed in Can Elon Musk Rule the World? (Channel 4), a well-crafted, peppy documentary that … explained in a lean, ungimmicky way that I wish I saw in more documentaries …

“This engaging film ended by suggesting the Trump-Musk bromance may not last long. Ultimately there’s only room for one super-ego.”

The Financial Times thought it “a succinct survey of Musk’s alliance with Donald Trump, as well as his recent attempts to influence politics in the UK and beyond” while The Telegraph said:

This documentary accepted from the outset that nobody truly knows what is going on in Musk’s head. The programme analysed his growing political influence and championing of free speech … It was satisfactory but not the ‘deep dive’ it claimed to be – coming to no conclusions, but instead offering up a balanced spread of talking heads.

Also new are S2 of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up (April 17) and the movies:

  • Together Together
  • My Policeman
  • Jungle
  • The Rehearsal
  • Respect.
