New to TVNZ+: April 27-May 3

The Night Caller (April 29) is a “tense four-part thriller” about a middle-aged taxi driver who interprets his favourite talkback host’s world views in dangerous ways — an obsession that leads to his discovering his idol isn’t who he purports to be.

The Channel 5 series, which has yet to air in the UK, stars Robert Glenister (Sherwood), Sean Pertwee (Gotham) and Suzanne Packer (Casualty).

Troy Kingi’s Desert Hikoi (May 1) follows the Māori musician and actor en route from NZ to the Joshua Tree National Park, California, seeking wisdom and creative inspiration from the environment, its indigenous peoples and his musical heroes while recording his latest album at the iconic Rancho De La Luna Studio.

Tiki Taane in Session With CSO (May 1) is a self-directed and produced concert special that was filmed three years ago at the fully refurbished Christchurch Town Hall.

New on the true-crime front from April 30 are two series about victim retribution:

  • Bad Host: Hunting for the Couchsurfing Predator chronicles how an extraordinary group of women joined forces to bring down an abusive Italian policeman they encountered while travelling in 2013
  • King Con reveals how the victims of a ruthless Australian who conned his lovers of $70-plus million turned the tables on him.

Award-winning Jean Smart comedy Hacks returns for its third season on May 3 and premiering on April 30 is the movie Three Thousand Years of Longing.
