New to TVNZ+: December 16-22

The latest season of true-crime drama Dr. Death (December 22) stars Edgar Ramirez as Paolo Macchiarini, a charming, renowned thoracic surgeon who was so talented he was nicknamed “Miracle Man”.

But were his seemingly groundbreaking advancements in the use of surgical implants too good to be true?

Mandy Moore co-stars as the investigative journalist who was set to marry him — only to discover the fact he already had a wife was the least of his deceptions.

Dr. Death S2 is based on S3 of the hit Wondery podcast of the same name and streams here within hours of its Paramount+ debut.

The Beautiful Lie (December 18) is a 2015 reimagining of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina as a “contemporary Australian story of middle-class life, love, seduction, and jealousy”.

It follows Anna Ivin, a happily married woman whose life and relationship are derailed by a chance encounter at the airport.

A pre-Succession Sarah Snook and Kiwi musician Marlon Williams star.

The Globe and Mail dubbed it “a delicately lyrical love story reverberating with all the enchantment and agony of an amorous infatuation” while the Sydney Morning Herald said it “excels because it reaches high and manages to take that giant step up”.

Everything You Love (December 17) is an award-winning Norwegian newcomer about a blossoming relationship between childhood friends, one of whom lives a double-life as a far-right extremist.

And Dream Team: Birth of the Modern Athlete (December 19) is a five-part series about how Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan helped to rescue a league that only a few years prior was on the verge of collapse.

Also ‘new’ is the 2008 comedy series, Cashmere Mafia (December 11), which stars Lucy Liu and Miranda Otto as members of an exclusive clique of career women trying to make it in New York City.
