New to TVNZ+: December 20-26

In Stranded on Honeymoon Island UK, strangers are matched into couples and then marooned on a tropical island to survive with limited resources.

Will it be love or loathing?

The same could be asked of TV critics.

“It’s like Married at First Sight meets Love Island, except that you’ll genuinely root for them,” The Guardian said. “How refreshing.”

The i Paper thought otherwise: “The series mixes the weirdest part of Married at First Sight – making people who don’t know each other get married – with the dullest parts of any Bear Grylls show – dealing with bugs and the toilet situation …

“I never thought the BBC would sink as low as Stranded on Honeymoon Island.”

The Times was in-between: “This Love Island knock-off may have a slightly shop-worn feel but the fate of six couples who pretend to be married after a speed-dating session is watchable in its own bland way.”

It streams from December 21, with new episodes landing Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. (Check out the trailer here.)

Also ‘new’ are the 2016 miniseries American Crime Story: The People vs O.J. Simpson (December 21) and the movies What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and I Feel Pretty (December 22) as well as the linear debuts previewed here.
