New to TVNZ+: January 24-30

He Had It Coming (January 25) is an Australian comedy about odd-couple university students whose feminist art project is co-opted by a killer on campus.
“Not subtle but a killer comedy,” said ScreenHub of the Stan commission:
As comedy goes this is pretty blunt and the jokes are often hit and miss. But even the misfires help establish a tone that’s over-the-top and kind of smutty … As the body count grows, the men on campus are increasingly gripped by fear. It’s a situation the women on campus are already familiar with, and He Had It Coming isn’t shy about drawing ironic parallels. The points being made aren’t exactly subtle (or new), but this series commits fully to them.
Mamamia dubbed it “a razor-sharp, super bingeable whodunnit that feels both universal but also quintessentially Australian …
“What truly elevates He Had It Coming is its approach to gender politics. The series uses humour, extremes, and pure, delicious absurdity as a tool to explore some very topical issues we’re facing as a society.
“It’s funny, it’s a bit unhinged, and it’s deeply insightful.”
Poisoned: Mail Order Murder (January 26) investigates how a young man died by ingesting a lethal poison that he had bought online – and the dark world of online suicide forums, where websites sell and ship lethal poison around the world.
“This meticulous tale of an investigation into a Canadian chef accused of supplying deadly toxins on a suicide forum makes you despair,” The Guardian said.
Echoed The Times, which broke the story: “A shocking tale, thoughtfully told … yet another reminder, like the exposing of the Post Office scandal, of the vital work that journalists do.”
New movies to TVNZ+ from January 27 include Predestination and X+Y, while streaming the same time as their linear debuts, as previewed here, are The Forsytes, Piglets, HMP Broadmoor: Behind Bars, Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2025 .
And as well as the last week of Super Smash cricket, TVNZ+ launches its UFC coverage with UFC 324: Gaethje v Pimblett on January 25.
