New to TVNZ+: January 27-February 2

It may have screened nearly two years ago in the UK but with news of a Jurassic Park reboot in the works from the original screenwriter, Dinosaur Apocalypse (January 28) couldn’t be timelier.

Presented by Sir David Attenborough, it reveals new evidence about what happened when an asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago.

“The awe-inspiring broadcaster vividly brings dinosaurs’ last terrifying minutes to life in this slick, gripping and elegiac feature-length documentary,” said The Guardian.

The 2022 production “deftly uses state-of-the-art FX and a virtual production studio” but apparently “more exciting” is the excavation of a mass dinosaur graveyard.

The Boy, the Queen, and Everything in Between (February 1) bills itself as “a unique and quirky comedy-drama [with] a big heart, some big curve balls and even bigger hair”.

Reads the blurb for this Kiwi newcomer, which airs on late-night Mondays on TVNZ 2 from February 5:

Fresh out of prison and determined to turn his life around, Jacob reaches out to the one person who can help him: his estranged father Max, who just happens to be the most famous drag queen in the country. Max agrees to let Jacob back into her life, and begrudgingly gives him a job at her nightclub. But will working together mend their rocky relationship, or be the final straw?

Part-concert, part behind-the-scenes, Pink: All I Know So Far (February 1) follows the superstar as she balances family and life on the road in the lead up to her first Wembley Stadium performance on 2019’s Beautiful Trauma world tour.

Being dusted off are the 2019-21 adolescence comedy PEN15 (February 2); the 2017 three-part thriller Paula (January 27), about a chemistry teacher’s dangerous one-night stand; every episode of The Tudors (January 30) and Freaks and Geeks (February 2); and, from February 1, the romantic movies:

  • Juliet, Naked
  • Begin Again
  • Dear John
  • A Walk to Remember
  • The Lucky One
