New to TVNZ+: January 31-February 6

The Walsh Sisters (February 1) follows five Irish sisters bound by love, history, and a tendency to self-destruct.

It’s billed as a “darkly funny and emotionally raw series [that] reveals unexpected truths about love, painful growth, and the bonds that hold us together”.

“Watching it feels very much like spending a holiday with your own family,” Australian website Mamamia said.

“Some of it is awkward and upsetting, most of it is familiar and comforting, but all of it is highly memorable.”

But The Irish Times thought it “a poor attempt to bring Marian Keyes’ best-selling novels to the screen … this adaptation runs aground on a lack of chemistry between the leads.”

Mission to Space with Francis Bourgeois (February 6) has the trainspotting influencer with a social media following of nearly six million training to become an astronaut.

“Mission to Space is peak Bourgeois: nerdy, emotional and wildly enthusiastic,” The Times said.

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner (February 1) is a chicken-themed game show in which drag queens Kita Mean and Anita Wigl’it invite everyday Kiwis to release their inhibitions in ridiculous, slapstick-type challenges.

TVNZ+ also is curating a vintage collection of Country Calendar episodes to commemorate its 60th anniversary (February 1).

From the Bravo Vault on the same day comes:

  • Couple to Throuple S1
  • Erika Jayne: Bet it All on Blonde S1
  • Baking It S1
  • Below Deck S6
  • The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills S13

New movies to stream include Barbarian and Blink Twice (February 1), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (February 5).

And if you didn’t catch its forgettable run on Three, both seasons of Bad Boys spin-off LA’s Finest, starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union as detectives, can be binged from February 1.
