New to TVNZ+: July 19-25

Tribe with Bruce Parry (July 22) see the documentarian “pushing boundaries” when he lives with three indigenous tribes deep in the Colombian Amazon rainforest.
“Some scenes might shock Western eyes,” warns The Telegraph — and it’s not referring to Parry foraging for ants, wading through a piranha-infested river, eating the the giant larvae of a palm weevil beetle, losing his mind on an hallucinogenic drug or projectile vomiting for more than a minute.
“This is a man who takes the environmental adventure documentary to another level and doubtless makes other TV traveloguers feel a tad beige,” said The Times.
Parry’s respect for indigenous tribes and their barely perceptible footprint on the planet is total and he wants to immerse himself in their cultures to show us things exactly as they are, not with any kind of TV spin. But I can warn you that there’s a scene in episode two in southern Angola when he smothers a little goat and it cries like a baby and, I’m sorry, I know this is all about authenticity, but I really don’t know why anyone would want to watch that. And that’s before we get on to people’s teeth being knocked out with a stone.
The Stolen Children of Aotearoa (July 20) traces the origins of 70 years of systemic abuse in NZ.
According to the blurb, journalist Aaron Smale “hears haunting testimony from survivors, and reckons what justice means today” for the 250,000 children who suffered, many of whom were Māori.
Also new are the first three seasons of Mrs. Brown’s Boys (July 22), live football — Wellington Phoenix v Wrexham AFC (4.30 Saturday), Arsenal v AC Milan (11.20 Wednesday) — and, as previewed here, the linear debuts of The Hunting Wives, George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces S12 and Beat the Chasers.
