New to TVNZ+: July 5-11

The Essex Millionaire Murders (July 6) is an “absolutely grim and astonishing” ITV docuseries about the mysterious deaths of a UK couple.
“The circumstances of Carol and Stephen Baxter’s deaths in 2023 were so baffling, and so hideous, that everyone involved in the case can barely hold it together as they relive it,” The Guardian said.
“There are no bells or whistles here – the makers have enough sense and respect to let the story and its sorrows stand alone.”
Packed with “all the intrigue of a classic whodunnit“, this is “about as good as terrestrial true-crime gets”, The I Paper said.
“Security camera, bodycam and personal mobile phone footage play a huge part in The Essex Millionaire Murders,” The Times said.
“Over two episodes, we effectively witness the slow murder of a lovely couple … True-crime documentaries are obviously a burgeoning genre but this was one of the better ones.”
All Goods (July 7) is an NZ On Air-funded series that’s billed as “a raw, honest, and often confronting exploration” of what it means to be well as a young Māori and Pasifika. Reads the blurb:
Diving headfirst into the real-life determinants that impact holistic wellbeing, All Goods unapologetically exposes the systemic barriers that are holding many from living full, healthy lives, while spotlighting the grassroots rōpū who are doing the mahi to reclaim wellbeing in their communities.
Defiance (July 8) is the 2013-15 post-apocalyptic drama starring Kiwi Grant Bowler (Outrageous Fortune) in a world where the delicate balance between aliens and humans is threatened by new rules and a mysterious newcomer.
Live sport includes ANZ Premiership Netball: Central Pulse v Northern Stars and Football: Wrexham v Melbourne Victory while kicking off the same day as their linear debuts, as previewed here, are Susan Calman: Great British Cities, America’s Got Talent, The Dog House S6, Border Patrol S14 and Motorway Patrol S22.
