New to TVNZ+: June 8-14

Night in Paradise, an “apocalyptic Oktoberfest” thriller, premieres June 9 on TVNZ+.

Based on the graphic novel by Frank Schmolke, this gritty new German-language drama series traces the events of one fateful night in the middle of Munich’s Oktoberfest.

It follows taxi driver Vincent and his estranged daughter, Joni, as they drift separately through the city amidst the crumbling ruins of capitalism.

As apocalyptic events unfold, old wounds are reopened as the city erupts, and the pair find their lives colliding one last time.

The Hollywood Reporter says Schmolke’s graphic novel was inspired by his own experiences as a Munich taxi driver maneuvering around the Oktoberfest “beer zombies.”

Also new to TVNZ+ from June 11 are every episode of cult thriller The Path (which first streamed here on Lightbox) and from June 13 the movies:

  • Superfly
  • Money Monster
  • Grandma
  • The End of the Tour.

  1. I see they’ve also acquired the much hyped Mary and George for later in June.

  2. The BBC News channel will be available free in Australia Philip, will it be available free on this side of the Tasman?

  3. Hey, Leo. I have asked BBC Studios if BBC News will be live-streamed here and will update you once I receive a reply. According to this report, it’s being made possible by the launch of the new BBC.com site and BBC app globally. So hopefully it will happen here, too.

  4. Here’s the BBC Studios reply: “It is the same channel as carried on Sky TV. In Australia it also goes out on Foxtel and Flash. You may be aware that we recently refreshed BBC.com and the BBC app. The new platforms allow for regional customisation and so we are able to launch the livestream in Australia. We evaluate expansion opportunities and consumer demand on a case-by-case basis and have no other markets to announce at this time.”

  5. Hey Philip, cheers for the update. Fingers crossed it’s streamed free into NZ.
